A modern extension to a traditional country house provided the opportunity to create a garden designed around the needs of a young and active family, with new entertainment spaces, a generous play lawn and areas for growing their own produce.

The family enjoys outdoor play, dining al fresco and entertaining family and friends, so the existing garden was reorganised to provide a variety of spaces for both activity and relaxation.

 

The small lawn beside the dining and BBQ area was transformed into a welcoming fire-pit space, while the larger area to the rear of the house was divided into a generous patio for entertaining, a large play lawn, a colourful planting bed, a new orchard and a greenhouse, providing the family with fresh produce.

At the far end of the garden, I created a more secluded retreat, tucked behind the planting bed and beneath a pergola. This quiet corner offers a peaceful place to step away from the activity of family life and enjoy the garden.
