A contemporary garden designed to embrace its open countryside setting, with two distinct patios created to make the most of the changing light throughout the day.

The large main patio is designed for dining and entertaining, opening towards the surrounding green fields and enjoying the morning and midday sun.

A second, more intimate patio catches the afternoon and evening sunshine, with comfortable lounge seating and a freestanding fire pit creating a relaxed space to gather at the end of the day. Corten steel planters and decorative screens enclose this area, providing a clear separation from the utility area and car charging point while adding structure and warmth to the contemporary design.

The entrance to the house is connected to the car park and main patio by elongated stepping stones. The front door sits at a 45-degree angle to the patio and pathway, which I used to create an interesting feature.

 

Carefully considered planting and sightlines draw the eye towards the house and fire pit, creating a garden that feels connected, purposeful and inviting.
